Common Submission Mistakes (And How We Prevent Them)

Confusing ARR submission with direct ACL submission

Our template includes clear guidance on the ARR workflow. Submit to ARR first, then commit to ACL.

Wrong page limit for long vs short papers

Toggle between long (8 pages) and short (4 pages) formats. Page counter adjusts automatically.

Using an outdated ACL style file version

We always use the latest ACL style file. Template is updated as soon as new versions are released.

Missing required ethics statement or limitations section

Template includes both sections pre-formatted with guidance. They do not count toward the page limit.

Incorrect anonymous submission formatting

Anonymous mode hides all identifying info and flags potential self-citation issues automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the official ACL template?

Our template is based on the official ACL style file and produces identical output. We update it each year when ACL releases new formatting requirements.

How does the ARR (ACL Rolling Review) process work?

You first submit your paper to ARR for review. Once you receive reviews, you can then commit your reviewed paper to ACL (or other *CL conferences). Our template is formatted for the ARR workflow.

What's the difference between long and short papers?

Long papers are up to 8 pages and present substantial, completed research. Short papers are up to 4 pages for smaller contributions, negative results, or opinion pieces. References and appendices do not count toward either limit.

Can I use Typst instead of LaTeX for ACL?

Yes! Our Typst template produces the same output as LaTeX. ACL accepts PDF submissions regardless of the source format used to generate them.

Can my co-authors edit the document simultaneously?

Yes! Invite unlimited collaborators. Everyone can edit simultaneously with real-time sync, perfect for distributed NLP research teams.
